Celtic what do you want?

Gordon Strachan left Celtic even though he had won a lot, he was routinely criticised for boring football, they bring in Tony Mowbray, he plays for expanisive attractive football, but they don't win anything. Now it its widley thought Tony Mowbray will get the sack. Given the nature of the scottish league in so much as the disparity between the Old Firm and the rest and the terrible state of a lot ofthe pitches, your not going to get a team who can win pretty. The issues Celtic are having are systemic isuuses with the scottish football and cannot be solved by changing their manager.

Dark Days ahead for Rangers

Glasgow Rangers manager Walter Smith has warned of financial meltdown this summer even if they win everything. Surley the Champions League money and their 40'000+ crowds every other week should be enough to sustain them, their debts are big but just a fraction of the top english premier league clubs. The question is then "Is the long-term viability of the SPL making it impossible to re-finace" i.e. do the banks see no future in Scottish football. Sad though it is and given the failure of the old firm to secure direct entry to the english Premier league, prehaps the best option for Rangers in the long term is to seek entry into the lower levels of English football North west Counties League etc. I'm sure the fans would stay with them for the ten year rollercoaster till they reached the promised land. Even if they cut thier squad dramaticly the squad they would be able to muster would be stronger then any of the lower reaches of the english game, the quick rise of AFC Wimbledon and FC United of Manchester show that a few thousand supporters and a little money can propel you a long way fast in non-league football.
